White Lion Nature Reserve
In July we received complaints and concerns regarding the maintenance of the Nature Reserve on the White Lion Estate (top of Penymynydd Road), so we asked Woodwork, our Management Company of the West View Nature Area, to pay a visit and review the site.
Below are details of their findings:
We were not able to gain access as the gate was secured with a padlock, with the notice on the gate
explained that there was no public access or right of way, but we were able to observe the following:
The area appears to be owned and managed by Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Trust. From their website this is an organisation that carries out projects on species and habitats in England, Scotland and Wales
There is a notice board for the area explaining how they manage the site and the species that can be found
There was also information about the activities in 2025, the species that have been recorded and contact details for volunteering
There are pond dipping and wildlife activities planned for 13th and 21st August for the public to turn up and join in
Areas of grass had been cut throughout the site, perhaps in advance of the planned activities
From the above, it would appear that the area is being managed in accordance with their plans, for the benefit of the particular species and wildlife generally.
