FLOODING - and how you can help tackle it
Penyffordd & Dobshill are both affected by flooding during storms, with floodwater often containing sewage. This is because the Victorian drains around the village were not designed to cope with the demand now placed on them by increased water usage and climate change.

By working together, we can reduce the strain on our drains and prevent flooding of homes and businesses. We all have our part to play.
We're asking every resident to take two simple steps - if everyone does this, then we can reduce or even eliminate the flooding in the centre of the village.
The Community Council and our county councillors are pressing for upgrades to drains in Penyffordd and Dobshill.
1) Get a Water Butt.
Getting a water butt helps stop flooding in our community by holding back rainwater during storms - which you can then either use to water your garden without racking up water bills, or release into the drains once the storm - and the flooding risk - has passed.
They're cheap, and easy to install. If you need assistance fitting it, get in touch with the community council and we may be able to help.
2) Sign up for text alerts
Holding back rainwater is only part of the solution - reducing the amount of water used during storms also helps. Delaying putting on your dishwasher or washing machine until after a storm has passed helps prevent flooding in our village. Waste water from homes makes up a large part of floodwater in Penyffordd.
Signing up for our flooding text alert service means you'll get a notification when the village is at risk of flooding - allowing you to reduce household water usage until it's passed.
Every litre of water not used during a storm is a litre less that ends up flooding our village.
